Saturday morning we headed to Baton Rouge a little later than we should have and ended up hitting a fair bit of traffic. This is the classic big sister messing with her sleeping little brother in the car pic while we were slowing inching toward campus. What else was I going to do?
We parked about three miles out (probably not too bad of an exaggeration) - note the sign.
At this point, all the boys were extremely happy because we had landed tickets for everyone and knew for certain we were getting into the game. Now we could just worry about the game and not getting in. Of course, we all said the road trip would still be worth it if we had to watch the game in a sports bar in Baton Rouge, but everyone knew we really just had to get into the stadium. Oh, for the days when we have season tickets. (They were readily available when we graduated and Shula was our coach - but even we didn't want them then.) Now, we're stuck somewhere on a three-year deep waiting list waiting on all the family members of the dead guys who keep ordering tickets in their deceased relatives' names to die too so we can get in. I think it's going to be a while.
Can you spot my brothers? Hint: They're wearing red. Kyle and David found a great pair of tickets on about the 20. We were in the corner of the end zone just above the Alabama section and had a great view as well. Also sat around some really nice LSU fans.
I think LSU was banking on a night game. The pre-kickoff fireworks were a little unimpressive at 2:30 in the afternon.
And now the pics skip straight to the good part. We'll just skip the stomach wrenching agony of a called back touchdown for the win due to a holding penalty, a blocked field goal attempt again for the win, and going into overtime in Death Valley. Thank you Rashad Johnson.
The powers that be in Baton Rouge didn't keep the score up for very long. Luckily, I snapped a pic before it disappeared.
10-0. Doesn't really take much to make us happy.
Yes, Nick Saban is in that crowd of folks exiting the field. I promise. Just keep looking.
You can see the LSU fans behind Robert exiting en masse.
The ones around Kyle and David were a little quicker to disperse.
Post game celebrations
And yes, that's my boy Andre Smith. I love the way he just played a football game and is showered and dressed in a white collared shirt, tie, sweater, blazer, and hoodie. That's Huffman stylin for you. We actually had a blast waiting around after the game for the players to exit the locker room. We figured we were a good five and a half hours from Birmingham anyway - what's 20 more minutes. My pics of Julio didn't turn out so well. He was all business getting on the bus though, just like he is catching passes. Sadly, Cody went down the other line and we didn't get to sneak a peak at the Mount.
David was just a little bit excited on the drive back home. What a game. Next stop: Mississippi State at home with the fam. I think it will be the first time my entire family has been at an Alabama game together since ... maybe... ever? It's amazing what a little undefeated will do for you.
