Capitell-Riley Wedding!

This post is a little late considering Anne and Rob are now a good month into marriage, but I wanted to share some of the great pics from their big day. It was so fun to be a part and have a reunion with everyone again. Next year we're going to have to be really good about planning a reunion get together because now everyone is married and we won't be getting together for weddings and especially not for births! (Though we have a bet that Amy and Matt will go first!)

The Bride Striking a Pose!
Anne looked so elegant and beautiful on her big day. The wedding was at Oak Mountain Pres with the reception at Altadena Valley Country Club. Marshall precided right before jetting out to LA for good. Dalgo showed up an hour late for the wedding (Megan was out of town) and met up with us at the reception. Parker moved that day but also made it to the reception. There were a ton of us in the wedding party, and Anne gave us all these super cute red necklaces. Jake and Collin played for the ceremony. They did a great job, and it was so good to see everyone.
Here are some pics from the rehearsal dinner.

After enjoying a honeymoon in Jamaica (at Sandals! Got another couple for our 5th Anniversary trip), Mr. and Mrs. Riley are residing in Hoover. We're so glad to have them in Bham.

4th of July Throw Down

Families from our Small Group at Faith waiting on the fireworks to begin.

The second annual July 4th cookout was a huge success - at least that's what we hear! We certainly enjoyed having our friends and family over to enjoy some good ole BBQ and we hope they enjoyed it also! We definitely couldn't have hosted without the help of Mike and Liz, my parents, and Kyle, aka "Master Chef and holder of the secret Haskew BBQ sauce." His ribs turned out fantastic as usually - and this is coming from someone who's already eaten them for 3 different meals in less than 48 hours!

My parents came decked out in patriotic attire and laden with two Boston butts and a ton of other food. Friends brought desserts and all together we certainly had a spread! After food and games and conversation, we headed to downtown Homewood to watch the fireworks over Vulcan. Thanks everyone for coming and helping and sharing the holiday with us! We had such a great time!

David's Graduation

Last Thursday, my brother David graduated from Clay-Chalkville High School. He graduated as an honors graduate with over a 4.0 GPA because of the honors classes he took and how well he did in them. I was so proud of him!! His girlfriend, Shelby, graduated too, and they were quite the couple in their robes and tassels. (But they're always quite the couple because they're both so good lookin!) Big Mama came and the whole family was able to celebrate. Afterwards, Shelby's mom invited us over to her house for a celebration dinner and we got to meet a lot of Shelby's family. It was quite the evening.

However, there's nothing like your little brother's graduation to officially make you feel old. As we were waiting on David's name to be called out (after Mr. Robert Adams complained about Summerville starting with an "S." I, on the other hand, being new to the benefits of a last name at the beginning of the alphabet appreciate it much more fully having come from the ranks of the lower half, though I feel Robert got a glempse of my childhood frustration having to wait hours for my name to be called for softball tryouts, graduation, etc.), I kept thinking about how I had graduated in the same building six years earlier. SIX!!! Goodness, when you're closer to your 10-year high school reunion than the year you graduated that's it - you're just plain old.

Then I got to thinking how old I would be when Ryan, the last of the Summerville clan, graduates in three years in 2011. TWENTY-SEVEN! We're your closer to 30 than you are to 20 that's old. I kept thinking I may even be a mom by then - and life would be way different than it is now. Than I dismissed the whole thought of being old before I started freaking myself out and tuned back in to the monotonous name calling. (Thanks for the reminder Dave! We can't wait to come tailgate with you this fall in Tuscaloosa!)

Wedding Season

So, it's officially wedding season. Cake, tuxes, bridesmaid dresses, showers, flowers, and rehearsal dinners have filled up the calendar for several months now, and it has been so great to reunite with family and friends and celebrate the marriages of our dear friends and family. Robert and I were/are each in two weddings this year, the latest of which
was Robert's cousin's wedding on May 17th in Starkville, Mississippi. We really enjoyed seeing almost all of Robert's immediate and extended family (We missed you, Jenny!) for the weekend, and it was so fun to celebrate with Patrick and Meg on their big day.

Amy G.'s Wedding

So my dear friend Amy G. is now officially Amy B!!! That's definitely going to take some getting used to, but I'm so excited for Mr. and Mrs. Bogue as they embark upon married life! Robert and I had a wonderful time this past weekend at the wedding. It was so good to see old friends and have some quality time with J-Go and Ben and Anne and Rob and lots of great friends from college whom we hadn't seen in quite some time. The wedding was beautiful and the bride couldn't have been more radiant - or calm. She really just was so relaxed. At one point (literally 30 minutes before the ceremony) Amy actually said, "This just doesn't feel like my wedding. It feels like one of yall's." To this I replied, "Amy, look at the color you're wearing and the color we're wearing. It's definitely YOUR wedding!" :) Robert and I look forward to visiting the bride and groom at their home in Charlotte sometime soon. Here are some more pics from the rehearsal dinner and wedding day.

Yes, we're still alive...

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Things have been insanely busy trying to get accustomed to graduate school. Last week I thought we were both insane to be working full time and taking nine hours each (which we probably are), but this week has been more manageable and I haven't been as overwhelmed. Robert actually has never been overwhelmed by class and his MBA program, so I'm trying to stress less and adopt his laid back approach! I'm actually really enjoying the new friends I've made in my Public Administration classes. And two of the three aren't that bad, though public budgeting is definitely as horrible as it sounds.

Things have also been busy since my grandfather's death. Big Daddy finally went home to be with our Lord on January 13 after a nearly 5-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Waiting for his passing was so hard, but since the funeral I have really been encouraged and uplifted. The Lord just gave us such peace and taught us so much as a family through it all. I feel like with Big Daddy's passing and the death of our neighbor, Keith, who died of cancer in December, the Lord is really teaching Robert and I a lot about his sovereignty over death and how glorious it is that because of Christ, death has been denied the victory. I feel like he is certainly teaching us to long for Heaven.

Here are some photos from the funeral. Big Daddy's pallbearers were his five grandsons (including my three brothers) and his three grandsons -in-law (including Robert). All the guys looked so sharp in their suits and ties carrying Big Daddy's casket. I can't imagine how proud he would have been to seen that.

I have to thank everyone for all their prayers and support during this time. Our small group was wonderful - faithful prayer warriors and encouragement givers, and they even provided meals and sent flowers. Thank you guys so much. My co-workers were also wonderfully supportive, and it was a special joy to have Rob's parents come down for the funeral.
